Friends and Enemies
(The continued saga)
I have mentioned several other animals that are either friends or enemies of Vegas. Well, here is one you may have never even seen before. This animal is an enemy of Vegas and I'll tell you why...
This is "Stinker". His real name is Darwin and he is an Australian Blue Tongue Skink. His body is long and narrow and his legs are tiny and short and don't look like they belong. Being that Stinker is a lizard (a big one but still a lizard), he doesn't have big teeth or claws or speed as ways to defend himself. So, nature have given him a pretty neat one: his tongue. When he feels threatened, he sticks his big blue tongue out and flattens it out. It can get about as big as a silver dollar. Well, Vegas witnessed this reaction from Stinker one day and her tail got huge and she ran in the other direction. Stinker is definitely an enemy of Vegas. Vegas does have a new friend now as well. This one, like the vacuum, in an inanimate object. Vegas loves heat. Loves it. Please allow me to introduce her new friend, the "hot light".
The "hot light" is what we use to study by. Vegas just thinks it's her own little private heating element. She'll sprawl right across our books just to be under that light. The "hot light" is very much a friend of Vegas.
Vegas has a new friend. Vegas recently met 'Kojack' - a Mediterranean Spur Thigh Tortoise.
We didn't know if he was going to be a friend or enemy of Vegas until recently. Kojack spends a lot of time out in the sun in the back yard. He is still very small (about half the length of a dollar bill) and must roam in a confined and protected area. Well, today Vegas was watching him from inside when she lept down from the top of the stereo cabinet and tried to charge right through the screen. We jumped up to see what was going on and saw a bird fly away from near Kojack's enclosure. The bird was very small and was not a threat to Kojack but still, Vegas did her best to protect Kojack (and, of course, chase the bird). I think it's safe to say that Kojack is a friend of Vegas.
Time to introduce another new friend of Vegas. One of our family members recently got a new kitten. This seven week old kitten comes from the same Humane Society as Vegas so that is an automatic friendship maker. "Squeaks" is a silver colored Tabby and makes the most unusual sound when she "meows" (hence her name!). We look forward to a long and happy life for Squeaks in her new home. Stay tuned for more!
