Friends and Enemies

Sure, Vegas is an indoor cat with very little exposure to the goings on of the outside world. That doesn’t mean that she goes without visitors. And, like the rest of us, Vegas doesn’t like everyone (or everything) she meets. "Enemy" in this sense doesn't mean Vegas hates or fears these other "folks", it just means she doesn't "play nice" with them! Of course, I am counted among the friends of Vegas but this site isn’t about me.

Other friends of Vegas include cats Boo and Catso.

Boo

Boo and Catso belong to very good friends of ours and are friends by default. Although Vegas has never met these feline compadres, she always seems excited to sniff our clothing and hands after we have been visiting with Boo and Catso.

Catso

Boo and Catso live with two dogs names Vespa and Phoenix.

Phoenix

These pups have visited Vegas. Oddly, Vegas is not too upset when the canines come to visit. She sits up on her shelf and looks down at them wide-eyed and curious, but not scared or hiding. She actually sniffed Vespa, nose-to-nose when Vespa was a puppy.

Vespa

They are friends of Vegas.

Sometimes when the dogs come to visit, we have to get out one of Vegas’ worst enemies... the vacuum cleaner.

It’s not a very large vacuum cleaner, not too loud either. I don’t know what it is about this machine but the mere sight of it sends Vegas into a hissing fit followed by a run to the highest shelf she has.

Outside of our home is a whole big world that Vegas knows very little about. What she does know is that our front door is visited by our neighbors two outdoor cats: Blackjack and Samson.

Samson

I think Samson is a threat to Vegas by scent only as Vegas has never seen her. When Samson comes around, Vegas goes to the door and makes this strange throaty growling sound. Samson is an enemy of Vegas.

I think Vegas’ least favorite enemy is Blackjack. Now, I like Blackjack. He is an old cat who has fended for himself pretty well in his 15 or so years. I have no idea why Vegas hates him so much. One day, on our way in, we stopped to pet Blackjack just near our door. When we opened the front door, Vegas bolted out and chased after Blackjack.

Blackjack

Vegas has never made a break for the outside before - never. This day, she chased after Blackjack, hissed and swatted at him (with her clawless paws). It was most unusual behavior for her. We decided then that Blackjack was definitely an enemy of Vegas (though we like him).
